Lodewijk Govaerts is an international banker, board director and corporate finance adviser with more than 30 years of senior leadership experience across Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the Caribbean.
He is currently Managing Partner of CNX Transaction Partners, advising companies, financial institutions and investors on M&A, capital raising, corporate and institutional finance, and strategic growth, in developed, emerging and frontier markets.
Lodewijk has held senior executive positions with major international banks, including as CEO of ABN AMRO Indonesia, CEO of Scotiabank Malaysia, and in regional leadership roles covering Asia Pacific and the Middle East. His career spans corporate and investment banking, capital markets, retail and SME (Small, Medium Enterprise) banking, risk and portfolio management, and extensive non-recourse infrastructure and project finance, including the financing of major infrastructure and energy projects. Throughout his career, he has combined commercial and financial objectives with an increasing focus on sustainable development and ESG outcomes.
Until recently, Lodewijk served for seven years as an Asian Development Bank-nominated Non-Executive Director of Indonesia Infrastructure Finance (IIF), a development finance institution backed by the Indonesian government and leading international development institutions. He previously served as an IFC-nominated Non-Executive Director at Tata Cleantech Capital in India, focused on renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure finance.
He currently also serves as a Non-Executive Director of Origen Fresh in Kenya, an agribusiness company focused on strengthening agricultural value chains and expanding value-added processing — an area of particular relevance to Africa’s economic development, employment creation and evolution from exporting primary agricultural products towards higher-value manufacturing activities.
Lodewijk has extensive experience across emerging and frontier markets, including Africa. His current work also encompasses fintech, crypto and digital transformation, and from time to time he teaches and advises executives on digital transformation, governance and leadership.
