Dr. Evans Martin Nakhokho is the General Manager, Mission Critical Agriculture, Microfinance, Linkage Banking and SME—at Centenary Bank, a role to which he was promoted in April 2025. With more than 18 years of progressive banking experience, he has built a distinguished career in designing, developing and scaling customer-centric financial solutions that advance inclusive growth, deepen financial access and support enterprise development across rural and urban markets.
In June 2025, he completed a PhD in Agriculture and Rural Innovations, with research focused on innovations in agricultural finance. His academic grounding complements his practical leadership in agribusiness, SME and microfinance banking, positioning him as a strong voice on how financial institutions can unlock productivity, resilience and market participation for farmers, entrepreneurs and underserved communities.
Dr. Nakhokho previously served as the founding Manager of Centenary Bank’s SME Department in 2009 and later as the founding Chief Manager of the Bank’s Agribusiness Department, both of which have contributed significantly to expanding financing for enterprises
and Uganda’s agricultural value chain. Earlier in his career, he served at Equity Bank as Relationship Manager for SME and Retail Business, gaining deep practical experience in relationship management, business development, client acquisition and portfolio growth. Over
the years, he has worked extensively with governments, development partners and financial-sector stakeholders to structure funding options, de-risking instruments, financial literacy interventions and climate-smart finance solutions that support sustainable agricultural
transformation. He serves on boards, including Ripple Effect and Acclaim, and is recognised for his contribution to community-transforming initiatives such as the World Bank AgriFin project, agricultural loan guarantee schemes and fintech-enabled data solutions that improve financing decisions and broaden inclusion.
